Scott Carrigan Baseball League
Newsletter
April 2003
It is hard to believe that the regular season will be over in less
than two weeks - Closing Ceremonies will be Friday evening, May
9, 2003 at 6 PM Players should be dressed in uniforms. The ceremony
should last about one hour and all players will receive their trophies
and our coveted Scott Carrigan Award will be announced as well.
Park Ball Tournament: Will be played the week of Monday,
May 12, 2003. Games will be played at 5:45 PM and 7:30 PM at Carrigan
and Tuscawilla Parks, It will be a single elimination tournament
and your child's coach will be notified of your first game time
by Wednesday, May 7, 2003. Please remember this year's tournament
fees were included in your original registration fees, so all you
need to do is show up and have a good time!
All-star Update: In order to develop a competitive team capable
of participating in a state wide tournament, each coach has taken
time to nominate a player or players from his team that statistically
supports being ready to compete at this high level. From there,
the 1st place coach at each age group is given the first opportunity
to coach the team. A meeting of all head coaches takes place as
soon as the season is completed and they vote on each child nominated
for the team. Each year there are children who do not make the final
cut; that Moms, Dads, and even Head Coaches think should have.
This is, has been and will always be a part of children's athletics.
"Scott Carrigan'' will do its utmost to uphold the integrity
of this process in hopes of fielding District 7 and State Championship
caliber teams.
If your child is selected to represent Scott Carrigan Baseball League
in the 2003 State All-Stars, please be prepared to commit 3 to 5
days of practice a week between May 19, 2003 and June 22, 2003 (approx.),
preparing the kids for tournament play. There will also be fundraising
activities associated with participation.
Pre-registration 2004 Spring Baseball: This year we were
blessed with a great overall turnout for registration. In first,
in the Rookie and Minor age groups, we were forced to turn away
over 60 children.
Therefore, we would like to extend an opportunity to all of this
year's eligible players to reserve their spot for the 2004 Spring
baseball season, before we fill up. Each coach or team mom will
have a 2004 Spring Registration Roster available for you to sign
up at Closing Ceremonies. There will be no upfront cost to do so,
just your basic information so we may contact you in December and
announce when and where to come out and pay your registration fees.
Batting Facility Update: Our Blueprints have been finalized
and we are currently working out the final details with the City
to begin permitting. On April 15th, the Board of County Commissioners
voted in favor of a $7,500 grant from the P.E.L.A.K. Committee,
and our Board also voted in favor of allocating $7,500 in matching
funds. Anyone interested in helping with this project this summer
and fall, please let Michael Mazzurco know as soon as possible.
Fall Flag Football: GREAT NEWS....The city has agreed to
allow Carrigan kids to pre-register and play together on Carrigan
based teams for the upcoming 2003 Fall Flag Football season!! Contact
Barney Gaskin for more information.
The volunteer Coaches & Board Members have developed a brief
questionnaire asking parents for their input regarding the baseball
experience at Scott Carrigan Field this year. Please take a moment
and complete the questionnaire and turn it in at the concession
stand.
Thank you for supporting youth sports and for selecting Scott Carrigan
Baseball League and we-look - forward to seeing you and your family
next year.
