Scott Carrigan News 2003 Spring Season LET'S PLAY BALL
*******************************************
Welcome and thank you for selecting Scott Carrigan Baseball Park
for your 2003 Spring Season. We are all very excited about our first
season as a Cal Ripken chartered program. Being awarded a charter
is a compliment to our previous Board members, players, and families.
In addition, it brings great pride and a sense of responsibility
to the 2003 "Scott Carrigan'' family to carry on this tradition.
We are looking forward to meeting all of the new families joining
our park and continuing friendships with our returning players and
families.
The Story of Scott Carrigan Baseball Park
This story is about a little boy named Scott that hung around this
field just because he loved baseball. As he grew and got old enough
to finally get on a team, it was apparent that this youngster had
a special gift. His level of skill was matched only by his enthusiasm
and sense of fair play.
He was one of those players that coaches wish they had a whole
team of. As the seasons went by, he developed into quite a player.
He began pitching and even threw a no-hitter! But, that wasn't Scott's
best contribution to his team. Scott's good nature and positive
attitude was what he was best known for. He would be the one on
the team that would give guidance, support and encouragement to
the players with less ability. Then, fate threw Scott one of life's
toughest pitches. He was diagnosed with Leukemia. In spite of his
illness, Scott continued to keep a positive attitude. He even came
back to play another season after going through intensive treatment
which had obviously taken it's toll on him.
Scott couldn't perform as well as before. His fastball wasn't near
what it used to be. But his encouragement to his teammates did not
falter.
Scott lost that game and Leukemia won. He's probably an all-star
on Heaven's team. So, that is how our field got it's name and in
memory of the enthusiasm and sense of fair play that Scott brought
to this field. Every year a player is awarded the coveted "Scott
Carrigan Award". This player, in his final year of Major League,
is selected by the coaches based upon skills, love of the game and
with the most importance placed on attitude, enthusiasm and the
traits that made Scott Carrigan a very special young man.
Welcome New Rookies!
This year we are pleased to welcome a new group of rookie players
and their families into our Scott Carrigan family. We are glad you
are playing baseball with us and we are certain that you will feel
right at home quickly.
About The Team's Mom
Behind every successful ball team is a great Team Mom. A "Team
Mom" is a loving volunteer position which allows a special
mom just that many more "bear cubs" to watch over. Typically
she is the one who helps the coaches coordinate 11 or 12 giggly
boys during pictures, helps call parents about practices, works
out the team concession schedule, gets shirt sizes and names on
the shirts, helps with fundraisers, distributes any paperwork, helps
organize the "end of year'' party, and/or anything the coach
may need a hand with. Every team needs a Team Mom. Please contact
your coach if you are interested in lending a hand.
Concession Work
It has been our custom that during each game, one (1) parent from
each team will work in the Concession Stand. Generally, due to the
short schedule, a parent will only work once during the season.
Although there are duties that need to be tended to (which are posted
in the Concession Stand), working parents will still be able to
enjoy their child's game. Your Team Mom will be developing the schedule
for your team. If a change needs to take place, please talk with
other parents on your team to switch. Let your Team Mom know and
be sure to change the master schedule in the Concession Stand. Please
report for work 30 minutes prior to the start of the game if you
are scheduled to work. Any parent that would prefer to pay $20 in
lieu of working may do so with at least one (1) week's notice (we
will arrange for paid help from local high school civic clubs).
If you have any questions or would like to help this year's concession
manager, contact Greg Winters at 207-8494.
Special Thank You
To all who have helped during our November and January work days.
..and in between. Without each of your efforts, we would not be
a success. For those of you who have not had a chance to get involved
and would like to, please contact Marc Cornelius Michael Mazzurco
or Bamey Gaskin.
Park Directors
Every several years as our children grow up and move on, a new
group of "Board of Directors" and "Officers"
takes over the park and guides the parents and children through
a safe and enjoyable season of baseball. The Directors and Officers
are all volunteer positions filled by people who love the kids and
love our very special park. It takes the dedication of many people
to maintain the level of quality and enthusiasm that we enjoy at
Scott Carrigan Park.

by volunteering your time and talent.
