Spring
Ball '09 Update
(4-28-09)
Starting on Monday May 4th, the annual City
Tournament gets under way. Teams (approx. 50!) will
compete from Carrigan, Rotary and Highlands in 2 divisions for each
age bracket. It is a pool play with the winners advancing to a
single elimination Tournament. This means that there will be 6
Championships up for grabs! This 2 week tourney will be held at
parks throughout the city and is a great time to bring together
friends and foes (mostly friends) from all sister parks in Cal
Ripken baseball participating in Ocala.
Are bragging rights on the line? Absolutely!
However this annual tournament is held to promote sportsmanship
among players, coaches and fans as well as to give all kids at
these parks that special tournament feel to games. We here at
Carrigan wish all parks participating Good Luck, but especially
those Carrigan kids!

New this year...
Many thanks to those businesses in the area who
have helped make some amazing transformations to our park which
include a brand new Clubhouse behind home plate and the huge
scoreboard! Also, a new sound system and batting cage lights are
some of the other noticeable changes made. We are spoiling our young
players with one of the finest fields in Northern Florida!

The
SCOTT CARRIGAN Award
At our field, each
year there is chosen a graduating player that best exemplifies sportsmanship,
attitude and character that is extraordinary. The people who knew
Scott Carrigan (many are now Fathers to those playing) remember a
kid who was a friend to all, could make his whole team smile, who
never hung his head after a defeat and said and meant the words
"good game" when shaking hands with the opposing team
after a game. Although it may be impossible to be this person at all
times, this is the attitude that we all strive for from our players
and children.
The candidates
will have played 6 consecutive years at Scott Carrigan park and the
voting is held by the coaches of the league. This prestigious award
is announced at Closing Ceremonies. All who have participated for 6
years will be candidates and presented with the Iron Man Award.
