Meet the Umpires

Umpire Randy Terry

Umpire Randy Terry is a familiar face to SC baseball families. His friendly, outgoing manner adds a nice touch to what makes SC special. Randy is originally from Wildwood and played hardball from ages 5-19. His favorite position was catcher. Out of high school, he continued his love for baseball going into men’s softball. In 2000, as his playing career was winding down, SC head umpire Pat Eldridge felt Randy was an ideal candidate for umpiring with his background in baseball and thick skin earned as an employee with the Sheriff’s department. It took two years of convincing from Pat as Randy says, ‘I was used to harassing the umps, not being one of them !’

Randy loves umpiring as he feels he helps ensure the kids are having fun. He even shares some of his old catching experience with our young players when he feels it is helpful.
Randy definitely takes a good natured ribbing well, as several of us coaches had a field day at one game, noting his recent trip to LensCrafters and how it didn’t come a moment too soon !
All kidding aside, we are very pleased to have Randy as an important piece of SC baseball.

Umpire Pat Eldridge

Umpire Pat Eldridge is a familiar face at Scott Carrigan, always with a smile, cool and efficient when working our games. He is a steadying hand at SC and as most of us coaches know, has a dry sense of humor. If you see one of the coaches suddenly laughing with Pat close by, you can bet he just shared a zinger. He is also our senior umpire at Scott Carrigan, in charge of organizing and scheduling our umpiring crew. Because of Pat, we enjoy a great group of umpires.

At the age of 12, Pat decided he was not going to make anyone forget Mickey Mantle. In 1974, Pat started umpiring games at the age 14, with his mother dropping him off for the 4:30 game at Tuscawilla , working two games a night, and getting picked up by her at the end of the night. Back then he made a whopping $ 6 a game ! In those days, before Rotary, the City ran all the leagues and Pat umpired games at Tuscawilla, Clyatt (Carrigan), Oak Crest, Highlands, and Fischer Park. When the city switched League direction over with the birth of Rotary, Pat moved over to Carrigan full-time. Pat has been an umpire for 36 years and figures he averages close to 150 games a year. That’s amazing.
